Color Correction
What is a color correction? The answer is, “That depends.” If you want to lighten your hair overall, fix a problem, have several colors creating a banded look horizontally from root to end…these are examples of color correction. It takes time, patience, money, product, time…did I mention time? You can plan on hours at a time. Literally…hours. It’s a slow, painstaking process that bears HUGE rewards. The issue is the internet and time-lapse photography. What you see in pictures and on You Tube has cut out 4, 5, 6 or more hours of time in my chair, and your expectations are out of alignment with what really has to happen to get you from point A to point Z. A thorough consultation is a MUST! Aligning expectations, price, goals and time need to be determined before any work is done. It will pay off for you in the end. Bring pictures, but remember that lots and lots of pictures have either been enhanced or altered and the people in the pictures have a huge team of ‘people,’ to make each and every frame look perfect. They also use extensions and hair pieces to add density and length. Let’s have a great discussion about where you want to go with your look, what you love about your hair and what you’d like to change, the products you use and how we can get there, together. Happy Hair Day, and may your taxes be low! Tricia
Happy April
Welcome to April, in Colorado. Will it snow? Will it be 75 degrees? How about wind? YES to all of the above, daily! So how do we combat the effects of the changing weather on our hair? The answer is to use a deep conditioning masque after about 7 shampoos, using Color Proof Hair Care products, having a protein spray on hand to use about every 10 shampoos, and using Olaplex!!!!!! You know how much you love your hair when you leave the salon. This is the way you keep your hair looking fabulous. Would you like to lighten it up a bit for Spring? Let’s balayage. If you want to add some fun fashion color, lets balayage! If you want to add some depth, let’s balayage! And if you want it all to look like you just stepped out of the salon, use Color Proof at home. When you book your hair service, add a deep conditioning treatment to your service. Your hair will love you for it. Its $20 well spent.
Makeup
Have you changed your hair color lately? Have you gone from brown hair with highlights to a soft balayage? Are you wanting to go lighter for Spring? Remember to change your makeup accordingly. If you keep in mind that an orange sweater clashes with magenta pants, you will understand that your makeup should reflect your hair color. If you go icy blonde, you need to cool off your foundation and your lipstick. Your cheek color should get a bit pinker rather than brick colored. Some women ascribe to the philosophy about summer, winter etc colors of your skin and eyes, I think you’re missing the mark. Your eyes, while beautiful and important, are tiny compared with the pallet that is your hair. It take up LOTS more real estate, and should be treated accordingly. After an icy winter, we are warming up our hair color pallet for Summer. Rose gold, sunrise, sunset, caramel…all words used to describe the trend in hair. So have a wonderful hair day, and even though the weather outside is frightful, warm up your makeup and hair for the coming season. Warmly, Tricia Pixie & James
Making a change
Hello Ladies, So, tales from the salon world…a woman would rather go back to her hairdresser that she knows, whom she wasnt happy with, and doesnt like her hair, than try someone new. Sound familiar? So many women rank finding a new hairdresser on the same scale as a new job, moving and death of a loved one. And if it’s a couple, the fight is over who keeps the hairdresser. True story. Every one of us has had the same experience with their clients. I will say it takes 3 times to see if your hairdresser ‘gets ‘ your hair, if your hair goals are moving in a positive direction, and for you as the hairdresser to gut- check your work and your relationship with the client. None of us can be all things to all people. Weather its a move to or from balayage and highlights, a new color, a first time color or trying to camouflage grey, it’s stressful, scary and sometimes it doesn’t go as planned. The good news is that color can be fixed. Made lighter or darker, more or less red. and you don’t have to wait months for it to grow out unlike a haircut. So, take a deep breath, have a positive thought, and make the call. Happy Hair Day to All!!! Tricia Pixie & James Hair Color Studio/Salon
